Each year for the first few weeks I teach a Cat Theme. It mostly centers around Pete. But, I squeeze in lots of other cat activities each day. These cat counting cards are a BIG HIT!

Seriously we use these daily and sometimes a few times a day. We practice putting them in order from least to greatest, play battle, practice counting or simply just use for number recognition. They are a life saver!

They are in my store! {for $2.00!}

We also started some math centers this week. They went pretty smoothly and for the most part it was a success. They required WAY more guidance than I planned. I have several “leaders” in this group of first graders so we will continue to work on sharing the materials and not so much bossing! HA!

My math centers this week were all from my Cat Crazy product.

We also welcomed September this week! Can I stop and tell you how much I LOVE LOVE LOVE my new black calendar pocket chart. You have NO idea how easy it was to switch out the August to September calendar Tuesday morning. It took probably 1 minute to slide out all of August calendar cards and get ready for the new month. Hallelujah!!

You can buy it on Amazon for $20.00! Go for it!

We did this ordinal word following directions activity for September.

We cut and glued the letters in order on this September printable.

And we filled up one of our classroom bulletin boards with the word September.

All three of these activities are included in my Months of the Year Unit. I use these the first of each month.

I am a huge sucker for a fairy tale – and I ordered this set from Scholastic this week. Love them! They are easy readers and the illustrations are the BEST! They were in the first grade Scholastic Book Club order.

  2. Kacey, love your months of the year unit! The "September" bulletin board is so cute and colorful. The coloring by ordinal number is great practice too!

  4. Hi there, had been sometimes following your blog. Do I need to be a teacher to be able to join in the "5 for Friday" link up?
    I'm a Stay-home-Mum who teaches on a daily basis after my kids are back from school. Learning from hands-on activities and fun. Can let me know? Would love to share my ideas too!

  5. Hi! I have a question about the Months of the Year activities. I purchased this last year and can't wait to use this. I'm having trouble finding the letters you used to spell out September for your bulletin board. I see some lowercase letters, but not all uppercase like you have in the picture above. Thanks for the help!
