Five for Friday {Linky Party….January 25}

fiveforfriday

Here are 5 random things from this week.. HAPPY FRIDAY!

………………………

1. We have a fabulous art program at our school.. and every year we participate in the private school’s district and state competition. Each class gets 5 pictures selected.  These are the five school winners picked from my class heading to the district competition. I can take NO credit for any of this.. my students are LUCKY DUCKS to get to go to art 3 times a week.

3. We had a great guy come to our school this past Wednesday .. he is a herpetologist {yes, I had to look that spelling up} and brought  a collection of snakes for our kids to see. He was AWESOME and did a great job talking on a level they could understand. One of my little boys said, “This was the best day of my life.”

5. I noticed when I left school today- that I was the only one carrying a huge load out the door. Do you bring home a lot to work on over the weekend? I was at school an hour early today and I worked like crazy during my free time to try and plan and get organized for next week.. but still I have a TON to do before Monday. I never feel like I am “ahead”.

Do not worry, I am always taking home a box or tote full of stuff for the weekend. I do all of my planning at home usually, so I need everything to come home on Fridays.

  13. All the artwork is fantastic! I don't know how you brought a snake guy into your classroom.....I could not handle it. One time there was a little snake in our building and I screamed like a little girl and ran up the stairs as fast as I could.

  14. 3 years of teaching and I've NEVER felt ahead. I've worked almost every single weekend since I started. Crazy. I keep thinking that I'm missing out on some secret.

I love your snowman art! :) I live in Florida, and many of my firsties have never experienced snow! :( We've been doing some read alouds in class about it and drawing snowmen too! :) I grew up in New Jersey and miss the snow--and the SNOW DAYS, but I don't miss being COLD! 18. A SnAkE?

I would have had to leave my kids in the care of a stranger-snake man.

    You are quite a trooper.

And YES, I carried a huge stack of things home tonight AND plan on heading up to the school tomorrow.

When I was student teaching, my mentor teaching gave me the best advice. She said, "Remember that whatever work you have today will be there in May."

It always helps me to keep the a clear perspective. I can't do it all in one day!

I hope you have a chance to relax this weekend!

  25. I get so sad and jealous when I see such cute and fun crafts from younger grades! My fifth graders are too "old" for stuff like that. Makes me sad. But your kiddos did a fantastic job!! Love it. Thanks for sharing.

  27. the artwork is beautiful. I am the pm art teacher at our school and I am very impressed.
Yes, I bring loads of work home every wekend.I have been teaching for 29 years and still finding myself swamped. Last week I somehow managed to drop my file box with all my student data! Everything fell all over the floor. When I stopped crying, I vowed to get a better system going.

  28. I, too, lug a ton of stuff home. *sigh* I absolutely love the art work you posted. I'm so impressed!

  30. I worked till 6:45 last night and STILL am not close to being ready for Monday. And have I done any work today? NO. Unless you count blog-reading. :) Also, our copier wouldn't stop jamming last night, so I finally just gave up, only halfway through our spelling copies for Monday. FUN. :/

Love the artwork! We are also so blessed to have an amazing art teacher (she is our TOY this year)!

  32. The artwork is great. I would love directions on how you did the snowmen. Is that on your TPT? I have taught the same grade for 32 years and I arrive at school every day at 6:30 and leave at 5:30 most of the time and still take home a boat load everyday and on weekends. That's just what it takes!

  33. That sounds like a crazy amount of work to bring home! I can't believe I wasn't following you. I always check up on your page. You have great ideas. =)
