 summer

Last week I basically skipped my own five things- because I had nothing exciting to share. This week is really not much better. It’s summer y’all.. and I expect that if you are out of school too you aren’t doing much either. And, the rest of you are stressed with a LONG to-do list trying to finish up your school year.

My sleep schedule is already crazy.. I sleep an extra hour {sometimes 2} in the mornings, I’ve taken a few naps and I go to bed much later than I do during my school year.

There is NOTHING good on TV. Thankfully, I had tons lined up on DVR.

It’s nice to have extra time to exercise but it’s terrible to have the extra time to eat! HA!

I have been working on my first summer school project. One of the first “themes” I teach each year is CATS. It starts with the introduction to Pete the Cat. I am currently working on a set of 15 math centers focused on some cute kitties!

I hope to have it ready in the next week!

And speaking of cats..
This is one of my two assistants. One of our kitties is always close by- sleeping of course!

It has been exactly ONE WEEK since my summer break started. I already believe it is going too fast! HA! I have managed to get a few things done around the house and take it easy. Nothing too straining. I have hardly thought about school at all. And, I have lived in a pair of shorts and a t-shirt each day.

Hellllooooo SUMMER! Welcome Back!

..and then it dawned on me that it was time for “Five for Friday” and I have nothing!!
no pictures, nothing to share, no big news

So here are my “Five things”…

Spring Directed Drawings

directeddrawings

This directed drawing unit is one of my VERY, VERY favorites! I absolutely love doing directed drawing activities with my students. These are great to squeeze in as time fillers. I can stretch one of these for a whole week.

Obviously.. the biggest news of the week is SUMMER VACATION has started! Yippie!

We have had a really busy week! We managed to schedule a very low key field trip to a local wet lands that is preserving some of the largest cypress trees still standing in the USA. The weather was perfect and it was a great morning outing.

One of the biggest events of the week was spending Monday morning with my next year’s class. 6 boys and 6 girls are heading my way in August. Oh…. the thought of training another group gives my stomach knots. Luckily.. summer break will cushion those feelings!

Another big event this week was our Awards Day Program. This little cutie was awarded a few academic awards for first grade.

And in between all the extra events.. we finished out last set of math centers this week. They were a big hit and were a great end of the year math review for my first graders.
