A few weeks ago Deanna mentioned she was started a summer book link and I knew I wanted to join up.
Then, with all the stress of summer {HA!} I almost forgot all about it.
I ran by our local library this morning and picked up a handful of books that I had never read in hopes of finding something new & cute that I loved.
And.. I did!
The book I am sharing with you today is called
It is about a little boy who told his class during show and tell that he has a pet lion at home.. just a teeny tiny little white fib.
Then that little bitty fib turns into more and more stories of his pet lion!
How will Matthew EVER get out of this story he told? He does.. but I won’t tell!

So, this story got me thinking about how I really do love Show and Tell. It’s been several years since I had a show and tell schedule in my class but I put together some ideas and special Show and Tell topics I like to use. I really look forward to possibly having a set schedule this coming up school year.

I don't have show and tell, per se, but we have daily sharing during morning meeting, which is very similar. Basically every kid has an assigned day and they are allowed to verbally share anything they want (no props). Then, they ask for questions or comments and take one boy and one girl. It's a really nice way for everyone to have the chance to share and it doesn't take up a ton of time. I love it!
ReplyDeleteI love show and tell - I always enjoy hearing and seeing all the random and small things that the children find so important! Unfortunately, our timetable got so busy that I had to stop it and instead we use the time to share our home learning projects instead. Still good work and interesting but not as random and fun...I'll check out the book - thanks for the recommendation!

My class is allowed to share once a week just like Rachel (above) said. Anyway, I love this book!!! Just today I received a donors choose project of $400 worth of books. It was like Christmas!!! Have you read This is Not My Hat? I laughed out loud. Adorable!!
ReplyDeleteAfter Christmas I do Star of the Week, where the "Star" gets to bring a special suitcase home and put 5 of their favourite things in it. Each day that they are star of the week they share one thing from their bag.
ReplyDeleteI love this! My kindergarteners LOVE Show and Tell. Thank you so much for the free Show and Tell download! I like to correlate our weekly Show and Tells to whatever our literacy skills are for that week (ex: bring something that starts with the "st" blend, etc).

What a cute book - I can't wait to check it out. It's been years since I've done Show & Tell in my classroom, but I really love all your suggestions....and the idea of a schedule! Oh, how I love a plan :) Thanks for sharing!
